Concerns

My major concern about using ProHeart 6 is not simply the dangerous potential side effects - all medications have potential side effects. It is the fact that these occur significantly more often when using ProHeart 6 than when using one of the many other equally effective heartworm preventatives currently on the market.

It is my opinion that the convenience of ProHeart 6 cannot possibly compensate for the loss of a dog's life. While in the majority of cases where ProHeart 6 is administered there are no significant side effects, it is not necessary to take the additional risk of these more frequent side effects.

In my opinion, responsible veterinarians should discontinuing providing ProHeart 6 and concerned owers should not request it from their veterinary care providers. Instead, these parties should opt for one of the other, safer products currently on the market.
